Lessons in Nixdminx Economics: camping it up
Categories: blogging mums

I’ve lost my camping mojo – I was a glamper and now I can’t even light a camp fire. Oh, perhaps because it’s absolutely tipping it down perhaps?

Yay, I survived a night in the wild.
Here is my 5* accommodation, complete with ensuite field.

With all thoughts of glamping, and umbrellas at the ready, it was time to do some serious shopping in the country.

This I could not resist. If you want your raspberries fresh – well how about this gorgeous punnet – handpicked by my own fair hands in a lovely PYO farm. I did pick a lot more but they were scoffed on the way round the raspberry canes. Everyone was at it actually, one of the great PYO perks. And I was totally transported back to long forgotten memories of childhood when we could take plastics boxes (usually old icecream ones) and go bramble picking. With fruit-stained fingers and vampiric mouths we would return home with pound upon pound of blackberries, raspberries, gooseberries, loganberries if lucky, and then it would be time to make jam. So this lovely lot is going to end up potted shortly…I can’t wait.

Can you spot the wasp in this picture?
I promise it’s for real – they were everywhere this weekend – probably drawn out by the sweet smell of Summer fruits. It didn’t cost a thing and was kindly thrown in by the camp site.
This gorgeous punnet of organic redcurrants cost £1 at the campsite and they’re like jewels and taste beautifully tart. Oh and of course don’t forget the freshly laid organic eggs for £1.20.

Last but not least, this gorgeous shop in Sissinghurst was a treasure trove and I spotted an antique watering can that I just had to have.

You can see it somewhere in the picture…a bargain at £15.

  1. Oh camping – I went once and never again! The neighbouring caravan’s dog kept us up til all hours and just as we got to sleep the dawn chorus woke us up again! My son loved it though. He can sleep through anything. Ooh those raspberries look great. You can keep the wasp though!

  2. I can’t wait to go camping when my little people are a bit bigger.

I remember going strawberry picking with my mum and nan when I was small.

My nan gave me a big icecream tub of her homegrown blackberries at the weekend, and gooseberries a couple of weeks before that.

Oh I love camping {big contented sigh}. Don’t really do glamping as with seven of us there isn’t room for lots of extras like duvets.

The campsite sounds fab (and that shop looks interesting).
