We love a good musical in our household, they’re so uplifting and generally camp that you can’t fail to leave with a smile on your face and Wicked is no exception.
On Monday we popped over to Victoria and joined the expectant crowd of theatre goers to see the Ozian prequel. Having seen it a few years ago, I wasn’t sure if we would enjoy it again but it was actually better than the first time. The cast has obviously changed and the chemistry was brilliant between the leads; and the comedy moments seemed better.
If you want to know what to expect; you’ll be treated to fabulous sets and dancing and a different take on the Wizard of Oz (from which the plot is derived). There are some great twists and turns
and not just the barn that lands on an unsuspecting glittery shoe wearer in this slick production which puts me more in mind of the Vegas shows than the West End theatre of London.
Unlike some of the smaller West End theatres in Drury Lane and Covent Garden, the Apollo Theatre is vast and the set is well planned so you can get a great view from most areas. If you’re taking kids, make sure you ask for a booster seat so they can everything!
Here’s a preview of what to expect from the Wicked Youtube Channel … emeralds, Ozians and magic galore!
The songs are great too, my favourites are Defying Gravity and No Good Deed, you can preview the soundtrack on iTunes here to get another taster of the show.
Thanks to Superbreak for inviting us along to do our review. You can find details of their theatre stays here which are really well priced and cater not just for Wicked but also for some of the best and longest running shows in London.
